However, do you know what the Local and Remote means? The Local is also known as the Localhost. Localhost has two different definitions. And we will show you them respectively.

What is Localhost?

The Localhost is the default name describing the local computer address. So it is also known as the loopback address.

And the Localhost also has another definition. In computer networking, Localhost is a hostname that means this computer or even more accurately the computer I’m working on. It is used to access the network services that run on the host via the loopback network interface. The loopback mechanism can be used to run the network service on a host without requiring a physical network interface.

To simply say, the Local computer means the computer in front of you or the computer you are using. So you can see that This Computer is showing in the Local module on MiniTool ShadowMaker. After choosing it, you can manage your own computer to back up files or others.

Then what is the Remote computer?

The Remote computer is a computer which users can not access it by physically. But users can access or manage it via some kind of computer network. The Remote connections are made by the use of network that connects to the computer and the device that is used to access it. For example, MiniTool ShadowMaker enables users to access it or manage it after inputting the IP address. After that, you can manage the remote computer as long as they are in the same LAN.

How do you know the IP address of your computer?

In order to know the IP address of your computer, you can open the Command Line window, then input the ipconfig command and hit Enter to continue. Thus, you can see that the IPv4 address of your computer is listed here, which can be used to access your computer by other people. Of course, you can also know the IP address on the Network and Sharing Center.

Then how to access Local or Remote computer?

After clicking on the software icon, you will enter this interface. If you want to manage your local computer, please press the left Connect button; if you want to manage another computer remotely, please input its IP address and press the right Connect button then.

Note

Remote requires that the target computer is in the same LAN.
