Way 1: Via the OneDrive Application
The first way for you to change Personal Vault lock time in OneDrive is via the OneDrive application. Here is how to do that:
Step 1: Right-click the OneDrive icon on your taskbar to choose the Help & Settings icon.
Step 2: Choose the Settings option.
Step 3: Go to the Account part, then find the Lock Personal Vault after: option. Click the drop-down menu to change Personal Vault lock time in OneDrive.
Way 2: Via Registry Editor
The second method for you to change OneDrive Personal Vault lock time is via Registry Editor. Follow the below guide:
Step 1: Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run dialog.
Step 2: Type regedit and then press Enter to open Registry Editor. You’ll be prompted for permission and please click Yes to open it.
Step 3: Go to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OneDrive
Step 4: Right-click OneDrive > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it as VaultInactivityTimeout.
Step 5: Then, double-click the VaultInactivityTimeout value. You can change the value data to the following and click OK.
- 1 hour: 1
- 2 hours: 2
- 4 hours: 4
Note: If you want to reset this setting, open Registry Editor and navigate to the same path. Then, double-click the VaultInactivityTimeout REG_DWORD value and set the Value data as 0. Then, click the OK button.
Is OneDrive Personal Vault Free?
If you are a subscriber of OneDrive’s 100 GB plan or basic 5GB free account, you can only store a maximum of three files. If you have a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, in Personal Vault but can store many more files.
