Now, Windows 10 May 2020 Update has introduced a new option for this recovery feature: you can cloud download the installation files from the Microsoft servers rather than using the local image.

How to Use Cloud Download and Keep Files via Reset This PC

If you want to reset your computer but keep your current files using the Windows 10 cloud download feature, you can follow this guide:

1. Click Start.

2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.

3. Click Get started under the Reset this PC section.

4. The Reset this PC interface appears. Then, you need to click Keep my files to continue.

5. Click Cloud download.

6. Click Next.

7. Click Reset.

After these steps, this Reset this PC feature will begin to automatically download a fresh image from Microsoft and then use it to reset your machine, keeping your files and settings.

How to Use Cloud Download and Erase Files via Reset This PC

If you want to reset your PC and deleting everything on it using the Windows 10 cloud download feature, you can follow this guide:

1. Click Start.

2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.

3. Click Get started under the Reset this PC section.

4. Click Remove everything.

5. Click Cloud Download.

6. Click Change settings.

7. Turn off the switch for Clean data to remove your files quickly. You can also choose to turn on this switch if you want to remove your files and erase your computer hard drive. We suggest using the second choice if you want to sell or throw away the device.

8. Click Confirm.

9. Click Next.

10. Click Reset.

After these steps, this Reset this PC feature will begin to automatically cloud download a fresh image from Microsoft, erase the files on the drive, and then install a copy of Windows 10 on the machine.

If you still want to use the computer, you can then restore your computer from your available backup file and download & install the application you want to use.
