How to Fix Fortnite Screen Tearing on Windows 10/11?

Fix 1: Turn on V-Sync

According to many players, Fortnite screen tearing can be fixed after they enable V-Sync. Follow the guidelines below:

For NVIDIA card users:

Step 1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel and go to 3D settings > Manage 3D Settings.

Step 2. Choose Program Settings, hit Add, and select Fortnite from the installed programs.

Step 3. Enable Vertical Sync and press Apply.

Step 4. Reboot your computer.

For AMD Radeon users:

Step 2. Click Global Graphics, and set Wait for Vertical Refresh to Always on. If you still receive Fortnite screen tearing with Vsync on, please move to the next solution.

Fix 2: Disable FullScreen Optimization and Game Mode

Although Game Mode can optimize your system and help you to play the game more smoothly, it might also be the culprit of Fortnite screen tearing. At the same time, turning off FullScreen Optimization is also a good solution to address Fortnite screen tearing on your Windows device.

Move 1: Disable FullScreen Optimization

Step 1. Right-click on the shortcut or the executable file of the game and choose Properties in the drop-down menu.

Step 2. Under the Compatibility tab, tick Disable fullscreen optimizations.

Fix 3: Change Resolution & Refresh Rate

Once your refresh rate of the monitor or resolution is incorrect, it can also lead to screen tearing Fortnite. If you are running Fortnite at a lower resolution, here’s how to increase it:

Step 1. Go to Windows Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings.

Step 2. Click on Display adapter properties for Display 1.

hit this option

Step 3. Under the Adapter tab, hit List All Modes and choose one mode according to your hardware specifications.

Step 4. Click on OK and then reboot your computer.

Fix 4: Update GPU Driver

Like any other video game, you should always make sure that you have installed the latest version of the graphics driver before playing Fortnite. Meanwhile, if the problem appears after updating the GPU driver, you can try downgrading it as well. Here’s how to update it:

Step 1. Press Win + R at the same time to evoke the Run box.

Step 2. Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter to launch Device Manager.

Step 3. Find Display adapters and expand it to show your graphics card.

Step 4. Right-click on it to choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers and then follow the on-screen prompts to finish the rest process.

hit Update driver

Fix 5: Use High Performance Power Plan

Maybe Fortnite is not provided by enough power or it is not being prioritized for rendering through your GPU. In this case, you can solve Fortnite screen tearing by using a higher performance power plan, to do so:

Step 1. Type powercfg.cpl in the Run box and hit Enter to open Power Options.

Step 2. Tick High performance and then reboot your computer to see if Fortnite screen tearing disappears from your device.

tick High performance

Tips:

This solution is not applicable to Laptop users because it will influence battery usage and Thermals.

Fix 6: Turn off Frame Limit

Another useful suggestion is to turn off the frame limit. If you have low specifications hardware, enabling this utility is very handy to limit the maximum number of frames it will output to the monitor. However, it is also one of the culprits of Fortnite screen tearing on Windows 10/11. If it is the case, you can turn it off to check for any improvements.
