It’s reported that Microsoft has launched internal Windows Preview Build by accident, revealing a new Start menu design. It seems Microsoft’s staff accidentally loaded an internal test build into the Windows Insider channel. This post will give you more details.

In recent years, Microsoft has changed the way of developing Windows. It just keeps making changes to Windows 10 rather than launch major new revisions of the OS that require paid updates. Sometimes, Microsoft releases features before it is ready.

Microsoft’s start menu has been the focus of debate. Starting with Windows 8, the company tried to remove the button to modernize the operating system. It also changes the menu to a full-screen UI, which is more meaningful for touchscreen than the desktop.

Although Microsoft was forced to backtrack in newer versions, some of the Windows 8 “live tiles” were still remained in the current start menu. Next, let’s see the news about Microsoft has launched internal Windows Build accidentally.

Microsoft Has Accidentally Released Internal Windows Build

Recently, Microsoft has released an internal version of Windows 10 to testers by accident. Windows 10 build 18947 intended for “internal Xbox development” was launched to Windows Insider testers who use 32-bit devices to test Windows 10 by the software company.

It’s an internal build from the Microsoft’s canary branch, which was released to all release preview, Fast Ring, or even Slow Ring Windows 10 testers by Microsoft.

On July 24th, Twitter user NTAuthority released two tweets, including a screenshot of the start menu of Build 18947. The first tweet is a screenshot of the Start menu in tablet mode. The second tweet describes the Start menu in desktop mode.

Both versions of this (still under development) start menu seem to avoid using Live Tiles- it only has the suggested app, search and access to the app list. And Microsoft chooses simpler, larger icons, and many icons are grayscale.

The Start menu in desktop mode seems to open the way that the past Start menu usually has: once you select the Start menu at the bottom left corner of the screen, it will appear on the screen. The menu is a simple rectangle with a pure-color background extending from the same corner.

In contrast, the tablet mode version of this menu is displayed in the center of the middle of the screen with a transparent background. The two menus also include a search bar at the top and a photo icon on user’s profile.

Above all, this build seems to contain a new start menu design, which was in the early stages of testing, without Microsoft’s Live Tiles. This is what Microsoft is testing internally for Windows Lite, but it’s unclear whether Windows 10 will quickly remove Live Tiles from the Start menu. The new build also includes a GIF search tool inside the Windows 10 emoji panel.

This version has not been properly tested yet, so it can cause problems if installed. Dona Sarkar, CEO of Microsoft Windows Insider, said the company was investigating the mistake. At the same time, if you are an insider and you don’t want this version, be sure to reject it when it appears.

Later, the company spokesperson announced, ” Microsoft has launched internal Windows Build by accident is a mistake, but we have already removed this version.”

Final Words

However, this isn’t the first time that Microsoft has launched internal Windows Build by accident. Thankfully, it was only released to 32-bit systems and it isn’t widely used, but it’s an embarrassing mistake for Microsoft’s Windows 10 testing efforts.
