Operational principle

Wiping is the process of continuously writing some specific data to a hard disk or partition so as to overwrite original data stored on the disk or partition. Once wiping is completed, original data can not be recovered by any data recovery method.

Two wiping modules

Free drive wipe software owns 2 different wiping modules, and users can choose different modules according to different situations to perform wiping.

  • Wipe Partition: wipe a specific partition without bringing any damage to other disk partitions.
  • Wipe Disk: wipe a specific disk to remove all files, viruses, malaware, etc. on the hard drive and the drive will start again with a clean slate.

5 wiping methods

Free drive wipe software provides 5 different wiping methods:
  • Fill Sectors with Zero: wipe original data via filling sectors with "0".
  • Fill Sectors with One: wipe original data through filling sectors with "1".
  • Fill sectors with "0" & "1": fill sectors with "0" and "1" to wipe original data.
  • DoD 5220.22-M (3 passes): wipe original data through filing sectors with specific data for 3 times.
  • DOD 5220.28-STD (7 passes): fill sectors with specific data for 7 times to wipe original data.

Note: once wiping disk/partition is finished, there is no way to recover original data. Therefore, we suggest users should be cautious about wiping.
