This post created on minitool.com focuses on the notch size of the iPhone. It is said that it will be reduced much and bring users some benefits like the larger screen-to-body ratio. Just read the below context for more information!

09/16/2021 update: iPhone 13’s notch is 20% (1/5) smaller and a little bit taller than iPhone 12’s notch (35mm). So, the notch of iPhone 13 is about  28mm wide. All four models of iPhone 13 will be available on September 24, 2021.

09/10/2021 update: Apple is going to reveal its next-gen iPhone 13 on Sep. 14 together with Apple Watch Series 7 and AirPods 3.

We have first seen the notch on iPhone X in 2017 fall. It was designed for placing the front camera within a full display. Many people said that the notch on the full screen is just like the hair hangs over a girl’s forehead. Isn’t that vivid?

Although the rivals have already solved the selfie conundrum with hole-punch, under-screen cameras, or pop-up lenses, Apple still sticks on the notch and it will still exist in the next-generation iPhone this fall in 2021.

iPhone 13 Notch

While the new iPhone will continue to have a notch on its display, the size of the notch will be greatly shrunk and it was rumored that at least 25% will be reached. That will thank to the miniaturization of the various Face ID components and the relocation of the earpiece to the top bezel of the device.

More exactly, it was said that the notch will only be 26.80mm wide in the next iPhone while currently, it is 35mm in iPhone 12, iPhone 11, iPhone XS, as well as iPhone X. While the notch is shrunk in terms of width, it will be slightly taller and be 5.35mm with the current 5.3mm in iPhone 12.

Smaller iPhone 13 Notch Brings Benefits

With the shrunk notch, iPhone 13 will reach an 88% screen-to-body rate, UP 2% from the iPhone 12 and 8% from the iPhone X. Whereas, the notch-less iPhone SE just has a 65% of screen-to-body ratio. However, the Android phones without notches have already reached a ratio of over 90%.

Will iPhone Notch Continue to be Smaller or Even Disappear?

In general, the notch can be smaller and smaller in the future generation of iPhones. Also, maybe it will suddenly hide itself sometime with its hardware placed under the screen just like what Android handsets did. Or, maybe Apple will find another special way to achieve that since it is not fresh for it to surprise us in the field of design.

Although it may not matter much for you to have a smaller notch, you can still expect the other wonderful design changes and feature upgrades (e.g. 120Hz refresh rate, always-on display, or portrait mode video) in the coming iPhone 13!
