Super Micro Computer, Inc. has qualified the MG07ACA Series 14TB and 12TB HDD SATA models successfully on the platforms of selecting supermicro storage server. This makes it possible for data center customers to choose from lots of storage server platform solutions.
Toshiba Announces 14TB HDD
Toshiba said the MG07 series industry-leading 14TB HDD capacity is wonderful, it provides people with solutions for supermicro storage server platform. And those solutions are approachable through Supermicro’s extensive network of systems, solutions integrators, and distributors. You shouldn’t doubt the availability of Toshiba 14TB HDD.

Actually, the 14TB HDD is provided with a 9-disk and helium-sealed design. Besides, the new MG07ACA series are pretty advanced in two aspects: power-efficient capacity and storage density. On Supermicro’s popular SuperStorage (SSG) line-up of server platforms, these two features are available.
The MG07ACA series features both 14TB HDD 9-disk and 12TB 8-disk models. Designed with the helium-sealed (3.5-inch mechanical) feature, the MG07ACA series are capable of getting better storage density and lower HDD operating power profile. What’s more, it helps to gain a forty percent increase in the maximum capacity and a fifty percent improvement in power efficiency (according to the comparison with the 10TB HDD models).
Listen to the Experts
As we continue to develop solutions to meet the growing capacity needs of enterprise and cloud data center customers, Toshiba is pleased to be working with Supermicro on solutions utilizing our new MG07ACA Series helium-sealed HDD. Toshiba’s innovative, power-efficient 9-disk design delivers the highest capacity available in the market today using conventional magnetic recording, and matches up well with Supermicro’s highly-regarded lineup of server and storage solutions.– said by Shuji Takaoka, the General Manager of Storage Products Sales & Marketing Division at Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation
Being first-to-market with storage servers qualified to support 14TB hard drives puts Supermicro and Toshiba in a strong position to better support our customers with high-capacity storage solutions, leveraging Supermicro’s complete portfolio of open industry standard storage optimized servers with maximum efficiency, customers can now maximize the storage capacity per server node by using 14TB SATA drives and achieve even better cost per TB.– said by Michael McNerney, the vice president, Software Solutions and Network Security of Supermicro.
Backblaze Adds 14TB HDD
Backblaze, the cloud backup provider, has been devoting itself to upgrading its storage pods with larger capacity hard drives. It releases reliability reports on schedule; in the previous reports, it published that the 8TB, 10TB, and 12TB models have proven durable. Now, recently, 14TB HDD availability is added to its mix.
In Q2 of 2018, twenty 14TB Toshiba hard drives (model: MG07ACA14TA) are added to Backblaze’s mix. And this will change in Q3 since it has ordered an additional 1,200 drives waiting to be added. It is reported that there are 9-platter Helium filled drives that are using the CMR/PRM recording technology, instead of using SMR.
Backblaze said, two new SMART stat pairs are also founded in the new Toshiba 14TB drives; they are respectively SMART 23 (Helium condition lower) and SMART 24 (Helium condition upper). The raw values of them are currently 0, while the normalized values are 100.
What’s more important, after being used for 3 weeks, none of the twenty Toshiba 14TB hard drives, which are added to the mix, fail. This is a good start, but it’s way too early to draw an official conclusion on the Toshiba 14 TB HDD.
