It is reported that Microsoft begins showing users a notification on the device running Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) when the end-of-support nears. This is because Microsoft hopes users to upgrade to supported versions before the expiration date. Now, let’s see some details.

Microsoft has an automated system used to notify users when Windows 7 end of life comes. This feature is only limited to Windows 7 OS that will end supports this year. As far as Windows 10 is concerned, it doesn’t use this method.

But for Windows 10 April 2018 Update that will reach its end of support this year, Microsoft will give a notification to warn Windows 10 users about the deadline.

Windows 10 Begins Warning Users about the End of Life

Microsoft has promised that Windows 10 servicing and features updates will be transparent. This company has made a significant change to the Windows Update process, for example, only a user’s manual check for updates can trigger the feature update and start to download & install.

Additionally, Windows Update can now notify users. According to Microsoft, the notification recently popped up inside Windows Update on the device running in Windows 10 version 1803 and tells users that the only way to continue getting new security improvements and features is to update to a newer release.

The message says “You’re currently running a version of windows that’s nearing the end of support. We recommend you update to the most recent version of Windows 10 now to get the latest features and security improvements”. When users click the Learn more link, they will be moved to a support document of Microsoft.

Apparently, users couldn’t see the Download and install now option if their devices have installed incompatible drivers or software. Why the feature update isn’t available won’t be told by Windows Update. Users can get Update Assistant Tool to figure out the reason.

Tip: Before any Windows update, using a free backup software to back up system is important so that a rollback can be done in case the new system won’t work well.

Microsoft Also Starts Updating Older Versions of Windows 10 Soon

In addition to the news – Windows 10 begins warning users about the V1803 end of life, Microsoft decides to begin enforcing updates on devices running Windows 10 version 1803.

According to a support document, the implementation started in late June 2019. Within several months of reaching the end of service, automatic initiating a feature update will be started by Windows Update, which keeps devices supported & receiving the monthly updates and always keeps these devices in a serviced, secure state.

Currently, Microsoft hasn’t introduced the version of Windows 10 that will be automatically installed on outdated devices.

The End

Compared to the warning that is displayed on the older versions of Windows (Windows 7), it is less intrusive for Windows 10 begins warning users through Windows Update. The notification can only be found in Windows Update; user interaction isn’t required to dismiss it.

However, many users may not visit Windows Update and install updates, then they won’t notice the notification. Thus, it is important for Microsoft to start updating the older versions of Windows 10.
