It is reported that ADATA’s two products such as HD830 external HDD and XPG SPECTRIX D80 DDR4 RGB Memory win the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2019 for design excellence. Now, let’s see what Red Dot Award is and know some details about these two products.
About Red Dot Award
When it comes to the news “ADATA wins Red Dot Design Award”, you may be curious about what the award refers to.
The “Red Dot” distinction has become one of the most popular seals of quality for good design in the world. And the award can be divided into 3 disciplines: Red Dot Award: Design Concept, Red Dot Award: Product Design and Red Dot Award: Communication Design.
Once every year, each competition is held. The products, design concepts, and communication projects are evaluated by the Red Dot Jury, which holds once a year for each competition based on the members’ individual specialist areas.
ADATA Wins Red Dot Design Award
ADATA is the world’s second largest manufacturer of DRAM memory modules and its main product lines contain portable hard drives, memory modules, USB flash drives, solid-state drives, and memory cards.
Recently, it has announced that two of the products have been honored with Red Dot Design Award 2019 for design excellence, such as the super-rugged ADATA HD830 external HDD and XPG SPECTRIX D80 DDR4 RGB memory module.
ADATA HD830 HDD
This external hard drive can meet the U.S. Military’s stringent MIL-STD-810G 516.6 standard and it won’t be damaged after falling from up to 1.22 meters.
It adopts three-layer construction, including a tough outer silicone casing, shock-absorbing buffer, and cushioned mounting that firmly holds the drive in place, offering complete protection inside and outside.
The HD830 HDD can survive nasty drops and blunt force, and also handle the download pressure up to 3000kg, about the weight of 50 average-sized persons.
And its robust aluminum exterior features a boldly grooved surface texture with a sandblasted finish and two sturdy side columns, giving the HDD the look of a true warrior.

In addition, there are many other features of this HDD. If you want to know more information about the HD830 hard drive, you can read our previous article – ADATA Announces Extremely Rugged HD830 External Hard Drive.
ADATA XPG SPECTRIX D80 DDR4 RGB Memory
The SPECTRIX D80 DDR4 Memory is the world’s first memory module with hybrid cooling. On the memory’s top side, it uses a liquid heat sink that benefits from a non-conductive fluid to dissipate heat. And it works with an aluminum heat sink and thermally conductive masteries on the PCB, offering comprehensive cooling.
During CES 2018 in Las Vegas, the ADATA XPG first introduced a prototype hybrid-cooled memory design. And the design feasibility of commercial memory module is realized by the D80.
The memory is equipped with programmable RGB lighting, so the liquid heat sink has a visual appeal in any structure. And you can set up patterns, lighting intensity, pulse speed, etc. to customize the lighting effects. By the XPG RGB Sync app, lighting control is intuitive. Or you can use any major motherboard brands’ RGB lighting control software to control it.
Earlier this year, ADATA had overclocked the D80 memory to a frequency of 5584MHz, which is a new record. This is because ADATA uses an Intel® Core i9-9900K processor (first usage for a memory frequency record) and MSI MPG Z390I GAMING EDGE AC motherboard in an LN2-cooled configuration.
