Tip 1. Update Computer Audio Device Driver
- You can press Windows + X and select Device Manager to open Device Manager in Windows 10.
- Next you can expand Sound, video and game controllers category, and find your audio device.
- Right-click your audio device and select Update driver to update the audio device driver.
- You can also click Uninstall device option, and then click Action at the toolbar and choose Scan for hardware changes to reinstall a new driver for audio device.
Tip 2. Check If Your Sound Card Is Working Properly
- Follow the same operation in Tip 1 to open Device Manager and find your audio device.
- Right-click your audio device to select Properties. You can check if it shows that the device is working properly under Device status.
Tip 3. Check If Your Audio Device Is Set as Default
- You can click Start, type sound, and choose Sound to open Sound settings window.
- You can see a list of audio devices, and check if your audio device is set as default, if not, you can click the right audio device and click Set Default button to set it as default.
Tip 4. Troubleshoot Computer Sound Problems
Windows 10 has a built-in Troubleshooting tool helping you troubleshoot and repair Windows 10 problems.
You can right-click the Sound icon at the bottom-right corner of computer screen, and click Troubleshoot sound problems. After a few seconds, it will ask you to select the audio device you’d like to troubleshoot issues. Choose your audio device and follow the instructions to let Windows Troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix the sound problems.
Alternatively, you can also click Start -> Settings -> Update & Security -> Troubleshoot. Click Playing Audio, and click Run the troubleshooter button to find and fix problems with playing sound.
Tip 5. Use SFC to Repair Corrupted System Files
In case the computer speakers not working issue is caused by corrupted system files, you can run Windows built-in SFC (File System Checker) tool to repair corrupted system files.
- You can press Windows + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift+ Enter to open elevated Command Prompt in Windows 10.
- Then you can type sfc /scannow command in Command Prompt window, and hit Enter to execute the command. The SFC utility will start checking and repair the possible corrupted system files in your computer.
