The new Windows 10 version will be coming soon, and we believe many of you are looking forward to this update. Here, you need to do these things after Windows 10 update, and these things are mentioned in this post. Read them to protect you computer and privacy.
Now, you are in the “Windows as a service” era. It means that you can enjoy a feature update every 6 months.
In fact, the Windows update process is quite simple. Usually, the Windows update process will take you about an hour and the true time depends on the underlying hard ware. After update, most of the apps and settings will be migrated successfully.
No matter you are using the clean installation or update, you need to do these things after Windows 10 update:
1. Create a Recovery Drive
Most of the time, your Windows 10 can work well after Windows 10 update. But, if it fails to start normally one day, a Recovery Drive will be helpful. With this Recovery Drive, you can make your computer boot from the drive and enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), and then fix some common startup issues.
To create a Recovery drive, you need to have a USB flash drive which should be large enough to hold the Windows installation files.
During the creating process you may encounter this issue: can’t create a Recovery Drive. Then, you can read this post to get some useful solutions: Can’t Create Recovery Drive Windows 10.
2. Secure the User Account
You can use a Microsoft account or an Azure Active Directory account to enable two-factor authentication (2FA). And this authentication requires the external confirmation from an app on the trusted mobile device. This can effectively secure your user account.
3. Turn on Bitlocker Drive Encryption
If you want to protect your personal data on the computer, you’d better encrypt every drive on the device.
Without encryption, your data on the drive will be in the risk of stealing by anyone.
With encryption, accessing to your data will need an encryption key which is uncrackable effectively.
We recommend using the Bitlocker encryption.
4. Configure Windows Update
Windows 10 has automatic update feature, but you may don’t like it or you want to delay it. In this situation, you can choose the use the Pro or Enterprise editions which allow you to defer the updates by up to 30 days.
To configure Windows update, you can go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates to install the available updates.
Stay in Windows Update page and choose Change active hours to specify the normal work hours you don’t want to be interrupted by Windows update. Then, you need to click on the Advanced options to set the deferral periods for monthly quality updates.
5. Review the Privacy Settings
When you are using Windows 10, Microsoft can collect the diagnostics information for use. You are unable to turn off the telemetry feature fully. But, you can make a setting to make the computer to send a limited amount of files on the Windows 10 usage.
Please go to Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & Feedback and then change the setting under the Diagnostic Data heading from Full to Basic.
Of course, there are some other things you can do after Windows 10 update, such as add a new account and fine-tune Action Center settings.
Just do these things after Windows 20 update to protect your computer and the important data on it.
