- Open Microsoft Edge.

Access the vertical tab sidebar
You can click the Turn on vertical tabs button (like a window) at the top left side of Edge to open the vertical tab sidebar.

The opened tabs will show on the left side of Edge. The top side will only show the current page icon you open.

By default, the sidebar is wide. But you can click the Collapse pane arrow to narrow the sidebar.

Then, when you move your mouse to the narrowed sidebar, it will automatically extend, allowing you to close tabs, switch between tabs, and open a new tab.
If you still want to use the wide sidebar, you can click the Pin pane button to show it.

Close the vertical sidebar
If you want to close the vertical sidebar and use the horizontal tabs again, you can click the Turn off vertical tabs button to close it.
