Businesses Fear of Windows 10 Migration

Microsoft’s recent financial report proves that the companies have been upgrading to Windows 10 in good condition, and the sale to Windows 10 Enterprise has grown 8%.

A new study from WinMagic, encryption and key management solution provider, has revealed that most businesses haven’t prepared when the support of older versions of Microsoft Windows OS will be withdrawn in January 2020.

This study was carried out in October 2018 at IP Expo in London.

At that time, this company surveyed one hundred and fifty visitors to Europe’s largest IT exhibition and conference along with a number of questions asked to determine whether they need to migrate to Windows 10 and understand what the concern regarding their organization’s own migration plans is.

Key Highlights about This Study

According to the study, nearly a quarter of companies (23%) are not ready for the migration to Windows 10. And 17% of organizations are not aware of the topic and have no idea whether the preparations inside their organization are in place.

Besides, about one-third of those participants in a survey (30%) are ignorant of support for older versions of Windows operating system will stop in less than 18 months.

Furthermore, respondents express the different levels of attention to Windows 10 migration. Thereinto, the 29 percent say they are quite concerned it and only one-third of visitors (34%) are not worried about migrating to Windows 10.

Among those users who don’t concern about the migration, the cybersecurity vulnerability, and user data loss are two areas of concern (28%) and the 68% of participants worry that the migration process may expose their companies to a cybersecurity vulnerability.

Additionally, about one-quarter of respondents mention software & hardware compatibility and application management. And one-fifth of respondents (18%) cite loss of productivity & user disruption.

What’s more, 36 percent think Windows 10 migration technology is not an option during the actual migration process. And over 28 percent have no idea about whether their businesses are taking migration technology into consideration. And around 33 percent don’t know whether there is Windows 7 to 10 migration tool for this task.

According to Luke Brown, VP EMEA at WinMagic, he says that companies may find themselves scrabbling last minute to offer a seamless and secure migration to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or Windows 8 if they don’t take action.
