A new generation of datacenter SSDs has been launched by Samsung recently. These SSDs are open to the small and medium businesses. If you are interested in these models of SSDs, you can read this post to learn them.
Recently, Samsung introduces a new generation of datacenter SSDs. According to the reports, these SSDs aim to the small and medium businesses and they will be sold on online retailers.
It is said that most of these new models are related to the existing enterprise SSDs. For example, PM883 is only supplied for OEMs and the largest customers. Compare with the OEM models, the new models can be easier to obtain, and it doesn’t include any OEM-specific firmware customizations.
Overall, this is a major shift in Samsung’s SSD strategy – from the pure OEM suppliers to the OEM + channel model for client/consumer SSDs.
Now, let’s see some models as follows:
Samsung 860 DCT
860 DCT SATA SSD is the beginning of the new products. This model of drive falls between the typical client/customer drive and the expectation from an enterprise SSD.
The hardware platform of this 860 DCT is based on the 860 EVO consumer SSD. So, it lacks power loss protection. However, its firmware is adjusted to get consistent sustained performance and has no SLC write caching.
According to its features, the 860 DCT is designed for cost-sensitive use. For instance, the content distribution networks (CDNs) which own very read-heavy workloads and require no extra data integrity guarantees which is provided by the power loss protection.
This model of drive uses 3D TLC NAND. Moreover, QLC NAND will take over this product segment over the next year or two years.

Samsung 883 DCT
This new Samsung 883 DCT model is introduced as the higher-end SATA drive. It is based on the PM883 which is released at the beginning of this year.
Different from the 860 DCT model, this drive has power loss protection. It also has a more typical write endurance rating – 0.8 DWPD.
It has no MLC-based SATA SSD in this new model which reflects that the shift to NVMe/PCIe interfaces of drivers is intended for write-heavy workloads.

Samsung 983 DCT
This is the new stream NVMe product in this new family. It is based on the PM983’s combination of TLC NAND and the Phoenix controller. The later one also powers the 970 PRO and 970 EVO consumer SSDs.
Compared with the 883 DCT SATA drive, this model wants to get higher performance, and it has the same write endurance rating of 0.8 DWPD. But, it has to admit that there are very few systems with NF1 slots which support this drive.

Samsung 983 ZET
The last one is the new 983 ZET. This model brings Samsung’s Z-SSD technology to a broader audience. It aims to higher write performance and the rate is up to 10 DWPD. It will be available as a PCIe add-in card. See its features in the following table:

Now you can enter Amazon and CDW to but the two SATA drives and the 983DCT drive. The 983 ZET will be released on 24 September. The 860 DCT is undergoing testing. And the company is going to review the 883 and 983 later this year.
To manage the SDD, you can use this free partition manager – MiniTool Partition Wizard. It has many features which are very useful for you, like create partition, wipe partition, Migrate OS to SSD/HD.
