A New Android Content Transfer Feature for Your Phone App

In January, Microsoft has reported that it is working on a new Android content transfer feature for Your Phone app. With this new feature, you can even copy and paste content across different devices.

Microsoft has posted a support document that shows some useful information like which devices support cross-device copy and paste, how can I copy and paste between my phone and PC, what can I copy and paste between my phone and PC, etc.

This document indirectly confirms that the new content transfer feature exists in Your Phone app and it is currently available on the specified hardware only. Although Microsoft reports that this new Android content transfer will allow you to copy and paste the text files and images across devices, images that are larger than 1MB might lose the original size.

Till now, Microsoft is only planning to add this new Android content transfer feature on Galaxy S20, S20+, S20+ Ulta and Galaxy Z Flip. This is good news for these users. But, it is quite possible that this new feature will be unlocked after a future update is released.

This new feature is disabled by default. You need to turn it on manually before you want to use it to copy and paste contents across devices.

How to Turn on This Cross-Device Copy and Paste Feature?

The cross-device copy and paste feature need to be turned on both devices before you can use it. You can follow these steps to enable it:

  1. Open the Your Phone app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Under the Cross-device copy and paste section, you need to switch the button from off to on to enable the content transfer feature.

Currently, this new feature is not available. But, we can enable it via modifying the app codebase. There is no hurry to do this now. You can wait until this new feature is released.
