As a new feature in Windows 10 19H1 which will be released in Spring 2019, Windows 10 Sandbox will be welcome by many users. It can create a desktop environment temporarily and the untrusted applications can run on it without influencing the actual desktop you are using. Read this post to learn how it can work for you.
Windows Sandbox Will Debut in Windows 10 19H1
Now, in this post, we will talk about a new feature of Windows 10, and it is Sandbox. It is an interesting feature which is supposed to appear next year in Windows 10 19H1 (Spring 2019 Update) in April. However, this feature is released to Insiders firstly.
As a matter of fact, this new feature Windows Sandbox is pointed at the business and power users with Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Pro license. To be specific, this new and interesting feature will enable the businesses and users to launch unknown and suspicious software in isolation without making any change to the computer.
From the above saying, you can see that this feature is very useful when you are not sure about whether the application that you have downloaded from the internet is legit or suspicious.
How does it work?
Actually, Windows 10 Sandbox can create a desktop environment temporarily, and then you are able to run the suspicious applications without worrying about the real desktop on your computer.
Microsoft describes that with Windows Sandbox, users can run the untrusted applications without the worry about the possible lasting bad impact to the personal computer. By using this feature, you don’t have to be afraid of the downloaded unknown programs anymore because you can check them in a temporary desktop environment which is created by this new feature. The software which is running on that desktop environment will not influence the host which is also called the actual desktop.
Every time when you open Windows 10 Sandbox, a totally new installation of Windows 10 will be created. Then, you can run the untrusted applications on that environment, and it doesn’t affect the desktop you use actually. When you close Windows Sandbox, the software will be removed automatically.
This is really a safe mechanism. However, this new feature is not released. When your computer is attacked by malware or virus, data loss issue can happen easily. If the lost files are important, you can consider using the free data recovery software – MiniTool Power Data Recovery – to restore them.
Windows Sandbox – a Lightweight Virtual Machine
If you have used virtual machine, you can see that Windows Sandbox works like it. However, the purposes are totally different. Windows 10 Sandbox can be created easily.
You can treat it as a lightweight virtual machine and it is built into Windows 10. Windows Sandbox also requires a Windows operating system image to boot from. However, it can copy the current used Windows 10 installation on the computer. That is to say, there is no need to download and install a new VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) image.
In addition, to use the Windows 10 Sandbox feature, you need to enable virtualization and AMD64 in the BIOS.
The Microsoft Company says that the Windows 10 Sandbox feature will be released with the Windows 10 19H1 update in 2019. However, the Insiders can get this feature now in Windows 10 Build 18305.
Of course, Windows 10 19H1 update will also release some other useful features like the ability to set default tab in the Task Manager, a totally new light theme experience, fresh Action Center features, and so forth.
