Western Digital has taken part in the Flash Memory Summit of this year, unveiling two kinds of WD Ultrastar NVMe SSDs. And they are the WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD and the WD Ultrastar DC SN340 SSD. This post will show some specifications for them.
The Introduction of the WD Ultrastar NVMe SSDs
Western Digital has participated in the Flash Memory Summit of this year. Western Digital has announced two kinds of different new NVMe SSDs at this summit. And they respectively are WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD and the WD Ultrastar DC SN 340 SSD. Both of WD Ultrastar DC NVMe SSDs are purpose-built for either mixed-use-case workloads or very read-intensive applications.
Hence, these two Western Digital SSDs can help you to get better performance. And you can also get the MiniTool software to optimize the performance of SSDs. And now, we will show you the specifications of these two WD Ultrastar NVMe SSDs.
WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD
First of all, let’s look at the WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD. The WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD is designed to optimize for extreme performance for mixed-workload applications such as SQL, Server, MySQL, virtual desktop and other business-critical workloads using hyperconverged infrastructures.
The WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD comes in three form factors and offers a board range of capacity points
The SSD built-in EDSFF E1.L form factor can reach up to 30.72TB, which is ideal for designing best track for new dense data-center. It also provides good read and write performance, whose random read IOPS is up to 720,000.
The Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD built-in U.2 7mm form factor, a particular one, can reach up to 7.68TB. It is ideal for storage servers, virtualized environments, and containerized applications using denser, power-efficient blade systems. SSD built-in M.2 form factor can reach up to 3.84TB for constrained spaces and OCP-compliant hardware.
In addition, the WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD also delivers flexibility with tunable endurance and multiple security options. So, it can effectively protect your data. In order to keep data safe, you can also choose to back up files.
WD Ultrastar DC SN340 SSD
Now, we will introduce the second WD Ultrastar NVMe SSD. It is the WD Ultrastar DC SN340 SSD. This SSD is optimized for power efficiency and low heat signature with less than 7W at full performance. It is a good choice for very read-intensive workloads such as warm storage and other applications that write in large block sizes.
The WD Ultrastar DC SN340 SSD also comes in large storage size which can reach up to 7.68TB. Other applications that can take advantage of the large-block write characteristics of the drive are distributed NoSQL databases like Apache Cassandra and MongoDB.
The sample of this WD Ultrastar NVMe SSD will be available in this quarter.
The vice president of product marketing for Enterprise Devices at Western Digital, Eyal Bek said, “Customers are rapidly transitioning to a variety of purpose-built NVMe storage solutions to improve storage performance, efficiency, density, and Overall TCO. Our Ultrastar NVMe SSDs are based on our deep understanding of evolving workloads and trends within the data center and are aligned to our proven and reliable 96L NAND nodes. We take pride in knowing that our new Ultrastar DC SN640 and Ultrastar DC SN340 SSDs are optimized to support the purpose-built workloads and data volume demands of today, while laying the foundation for the future of zettabyte scale.”
Final Words
To sum up, this post has introduced two kinds of new WD Ultrastar NVMe SSDs – WD Ultrastar DC SN640 SSD and WD Ultrastar DC SN340 SSD. Both of them come in large storage size and deliver fast good transfer speed.
