Microsoft Focuss on Windows 10 Quality to Offer a Better Service

Then this company had to fix desktop and Chrome freezing problems after shipping it to more than 600 million devices.

In its post titled “Windows 10 Quality approach for a complex ecosystem”, it describes all the work that Microsoft has already done to test Windows 10. And Microsoft claims it is doing a great job with “Windows as a service”.

Windows is a complex system to test because not every machine has the same components and drivers. Microsoft claims that it delivers thousands of driver updates a month via Windows Update.

Microsoft to Focus on Windows 10 Quality

In Windows 10, Microsoft shifts the way it tests the operating system. In the past, it used professional Software Test Engineer roles to ensure quality. It can also self host and install the latest Windows builds to test new feature changes and bug fixes.

But Microsoft made a big round of layoffs and cut most of these a year before Windows 10 release. Then, now it uses developers to test the work or reports from Windows Insider feedback program. Microsoft says, by shifting the responsibility for base functional testing to its development teams, this can deliver higher quality code from the start.

Additionally, Microsoft has specialist testing programs with PC vendors and customers to make sure bugs can be found. According to Microsoft, the focus by far has been almost on detecting and fixing issues and they will focus more on transparency and communication.
