The LaCie Rugged portable hard disk shows its strong vitality in the heat of competition, for more than a decade. It’s a must-have in the world's most influential film, photography and music studios (in which the most creative professionals located). Why? That is because the LaCie Rugged products provide the most reliable data acquisition and transmission method.

Frankly speaking, there are mainly two kinds of storage drives in the marketplace today:

  1. the regular hard disk drive (HDD), which is said to have big size;
  2. the solid state drive (SSD), which is actually compact in its size.

But, in addition to these two kinds of drives, there is a new one, which claims to be rugged. What does this mean? It means that it is able to withstand a fair amount of rough handling and abuse. Seagate LaCie is one of them (Seagate acquired the premium storage company LaCie in 2012). Here, I’d like to talk about the Seagate LaCie performance. Please keep reading.

Seagate LaCie – the Rugged Hard Disk Trusted by Professionals

The Seagate LaCie is featured of many merits, including reliability, fast speed and multifunction. Two of the most important highlights are: rugged & fast. Now, I will talk about them one by one.

Seagate LaCie is a rugged hard drive which has a rubberized orange sleeve (you can take it off if you like). Similar to SSD, the drive is compact and its weight is only 224 grams (the weight will be reduced to 166 grams if you remove the orange sleeve).

Why is there a sleeve? By adding a sleeve to it, LaCie can withstand drops up to 1.2m. Besides, the drive can works well even if it is run over by a vehicle weighs up to 1 tonne. That’s amazing!

Obviously, this rugged hard drive can handle multiple drops with ease. But remember, it’s not waterproof. Two drives (1TB each) are included in the LaCie and each of them is as small as 7mm. These two drives are encased inside and give support for the USB Type C data transfer.

Another exciting news about the LaCie is that you can’t hear any sound coming from the drive while you are using it. So, choosing LaCie – the rugged hard drive – is a good way to get away from the annoying noises generated by a working hard drive.

Warning: Though Seagate LaCie is proved to be very tough, I still advise you to be careful when using it. After all, the unexpected thing waits around every turn. I think you’ll need a great solution to Seagate hard drive recovery when accidents come along.

Data Transfer Rate of Seagate LaCie

In brief, the data transfer rate refers to the amount of digital data that can be moved from one place to another in a particular time unit.

According to users’ feedback and the research results, LaCie owns a fast data transfer rate which enables data to move quickly from one place to another. A series of studies are designed to confirm that; the researchers have used multiple storage drive benchmark apps, such as CrystalDiskMark and HD Tune.

The read and write speeds of LaCie drive are respectively 132 MB/sec and 129 MB/sec, in the first case. These data are close to what LaCie claims officially, and they are quick enough for a 2TB drive.

While, with the HD Tune, the drive reaches a maximum speed of 141 MB/sec and keeps an average speed of 97.7 MB/sec.

You may be obsessed with the self-encrypting magic of Seagate LaCie, brought by the Seagate Secure technology. This technology brings reliable confidentiality for your data. What’s more important, the LaCie’s Rugged SECURE allows you to transfer sensitive data without worrying about the unauthorized access or intellectual property theft.
