Toshiba Adds New Helium-sealed Hard Drives to N300 & X300

On Dec 5, 2018, there is a piece of good news to all the Toshiba loyalists: the new 12TB and 14TB helium-sealed hard drives are added to both the N300 NAS hard drive and X300 Performance hard drive product line (which are the high-end and large-capacity mechanical hard drives designed especially for NAS and desktop enthusiasts).

The biggest advantages of the new models when compared to the previous 10TB models are:

• It has more capacity (up to 40%).
• It has less power demands.

Features of New Toshiba Hard Drives

• The data buffer is extremely high: up to 256MB.
• The operational speed of the new 12TB and 14TB models is 7,200rpm.
• The tracking accuracy is improved and the reading & writing performance is maximized.
• There are additional motors located on the top and the bottom (which is known as Stable Platter Technology) designed for minimizing vibrations by stabilizing the motor shaft.
• The 3.5-inch mechanical design makes it possible to deliver increased storage density with the help of a lower hard drive operating power profile.
• The helium is securely sealed inside the drive enclosure by taking advantage of Toshiba’s laser welding technology.

N300 NAS Series

There are several rotational vibration (RV) sensors contained in the Toshiba N300 NAS models. The sustained data transfer rates of the 14TB N300 NAS and 12TB N300 NAS are respectively 260MB/s and 253MB/s at most.

The new Toshiba N300 models give support to multi-RAID systems (up to 8 HDD).
