Mushkin has announced two types of solid-state drives on the CES 2019. Both of them are Mushkin Carbon X100 and Mushkin Carbon Z100. Mushkin claims that both of them have a fast transmission rate.
Mushkin Shows Two External SSDs with Fast Speed at CES 2019
Recently, Mushkin has introduced two kinds of new external hard drives at CES 2019, which are Mushkin Carbon X100 and Mushkin Carbon Z100. Besides, Mushkin has claimed that these two Mushkin SSDs have a fast transmission rate that is up to 2.2GB/s. And in this post, we will show some detailed specifications of these two Mushkin SSDs.
Mushkin Carbon X100
First of all, let’s look at the Mushkin Carbon X100 SSD. This Mushkin SSD is featuring USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 interfaces. It is powered by the desk-class controllers. The performance of this Mushkin Carbon X100 SSD is similar to the internal SSD. Its sequential read and write speeds to some extent are limited by their interfaces.
The Mushkin Carbon X100 integrates a desktop-class SSD featuring 3D NAND flash memory and an appropriate interface controller.

For the design aspect, this Mushkin Carbon X100 SSD looks like the MyDigitalSSD M2X SSD. This Mushkin SSD is based on Silicon Motion’s SM2263XT controller and is equipped with 500GB and 1TB 3D TLC NAND flash memory. Thus, this Mushkin Carbon X100 comes in large storage size.
After tests, the result shows that the sequential read and write speed of this Mushkin Carbon SSD is about 1000MB/s and the random read and write IOPS are about 115000 and 88000. Although the performance of this Mushkin SSD is limited by the interface, it is still faster than the SATA 6 Gbps internal drivers.
Mushkin offers a 3-year limited warranty to this Mushkin Carbon X100 SSD, but it doesn’t announce the price since it will be decided according to the price of the 3D NAND memory.
Mushkin Carbon Z100
Mushkin also has released another solid-state drive at CES 2019. It is Mushkin Carbon Z100. And in this part, we will show some detailed information on the Mushkin Carbon Z100 SSD. The interface of this Mushkin Carbon Z100 is Thunderbolt 3. As a matter of fact, since this Mushkin SSD uses the Intel’s Alpine Ridge TB3 controllers, their compatibility with USB 3.1 Type-C computers is not guaranteed.
It takes the SM2262EN as the controller and adopts the 64L 3D NAND flash memory. It also comes in large storage size ranging from 250GB to 2TB, which is larger than the Mushkin Carbon X100.

Mushkin claims that the sequential read and write speed of this Mushkin Carbon Z100 SSD are up to 2210MB/s and 1355MB/s. Besides, the random read and write IOPS of this Mushkin SSD are 263,000 and 180,000, which is quite fine for an external solid-state drive.
It is unknown that how long of the warranty of this Mushkin SSD will be provided.
Final Words
After reading this post, you can get the information that Mushkin has launched two kinds of solid-state drives which respectively are Mushkin Carbon X100 and Mushkin Carbon Z100 at CES 2019. Both of them have large storage size and fast transmission rate. And these two Mushkin SSDs will be available in later of 2019, but the price is still unknown.
