What to Do when Android Phone Won’t Charge?

Fix 1: Try to Restart Your Android Phone

When your phone stopped charging, you can hold down the power button for about 5-7 seconds. Then, your Android device should restart. Next, you can check whether you can charge the device successfully.

Fix 2: Check the Cable, Charger, Outlet, and Case

Step 1: Check if the cable and charger are working normally

You can try them using another device.

You also need to see if the cable is properly connected to the charger and to your Android phone.

Additionally, you can clear the port of your phone in case that there is dust or lint.

Step 2: Check if the outlet is working

You can plug the charger into a wall outlet to have a try.

You can try the charger with something else like a lamp.

If you are using a new charger, you need to check you have removed the cases or battery packs.

Fix 3: Check Your Phone Battery Charge

If your phone’s battery is completely drained, the device will turn off. When you plug the power, you need to wait one minute more to let the device get enough power to power it on.

Fix 4: Check Your Screen

  1. Press the Power button for about 30 seconds.
  2. 2 minutes later, you can call your phone using another device. You can also make your phone ring using Find My Device.
  3. If your phone can ring but you can’t see it works, you need to troubleshoot it. However, if your phone doesn’t ring, you need to try the next fix.

Fix 5: Use a Computer

1. Connect your phone to your computer using a cable that comes with your phone.

2. 10-15 minutes later, you can disconnect and then reconnect the cable from your phone within 10 seconds.

3. You can make a quick check within 1 minute:

  • If there is a battery icon, this means that your phone is powered off and under charging.
  • If there is a red light, this means that the battery is fully discharged.
  • If the red light is flashing, this means that there is not enough power to turn the device on.

4. Charge the device for about half an hour. Then, you can press and hold the Power button to restart your device.

Fix 6: Use Your Phone’s Buttons

Keep your phone in charging. Then, press and hold the volume down button and the Power button at the same time for about 20 seconds.

A red light means that the battery is fully discharged.

  1. Charge your device for about half an hour.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for some seconds until you can tap Restart on the screen to restart your device.

If you see an Android robot on the screen and the word Start with an arrow around it:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button until you see Power off. Then, press the power button to select Power off.
  2. Charge your phone for at least half an hour.
