On October 17, Microsoft released its new Windows 10 19H1 Preview to Fast ring and Skip Ahead Insiders. This update comes in at build 18262, focusing on many issue fixes and new changes & improvements. Let's see this new build in this post.
Windows 10 19H1 Build 18262 Is Out
For Microsoft, Windows 10 October 2018 Update is really a mess, not to mention for those users who have installed it and lost important data. This feature update will be tested further with Windows Insiders and it most likely won’t be long before its re-launch.
At the same time, Microsoft is working on its next feature update that may be released next spring (perhaps Spring 2019 Update). And on October 17, this company rolled out a new build (18262) to Insiders on the Fast and Skip Ahead rings.
This new build brings some bug fixes, new features especially uninstalling more preinstalled Microsoft apps, as well as some improvements. Here is a look at what’s new and the changes in Windows 10 19H1 Preview.
What’s New & Some Fixes in Windows 10 Preview Build 18262
Four New Features
1. See DPI Awareness in Task Manager
Windows 10 Build 18262 adds a column in the Details tab of Task Manager, letting users know which of their running apps is DPI Aware – namely which apps tell Windows how they deal with DPI scaling. Just right-click on any column in Task Manager, choose the section Select Columns and pick DPI Awareness to add this list.
2. Remove Preinstalled Windows 10 Apps
In this new Windows 10 19H1 Preview, users can quickly and easily uninstall some additional preinstalled Windows 10 inbox apps via the context menu of All Apps list on the Start menu.
These apps include Calculator, Calendar, Movies & TV, 3D Viewer (previously called Mixed Reality Viewer), Paint 3D, Mail, Snip & Sketch, Voice Recorder, and Sticky Notes.
3. New Troubleshooting Improvement
Windows 10 Preview Build 18262 makes an improvement to Troubleshooting. This feature uses diagnostic data to deliver a set of fixes matching problems that are detected on the device and automatically apply them to the PC.
And users can find this new troubleshooting setting by going to Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot.
4. Narrator Read by Sentence
Users can read next, current and previous sentences in the Narrator. And read by sentence is available with the keyboard and touch.
Bug Fixes, General Changes or Improvements
Windows 10 19H1 Preview Build 18262 also brings some issue fixes, including:
- App History is blank in Task Manager in the last flight.
- Task Manager’s icon in the notification area of the taskbar is visible when it is open.
- Settings crashes in the last few flights when clicking Apply on Make Text Bigger in Ease of Access, clicking Check for updates or applying an updated Active Hours range.
- The issue causing the upgrade to the previous flight potentially failing with an error, Office products not launching, services not starting.
- File Explorer is not launching if invokes from a pinned Start tile when in Tablet Mode.
- Notepad isn’t listed on the Set Defaults by App page in Settings.
- Brightness sometimes is reset to 50% after a reboot.
And the improvements include:
- Separate options for installing the language pack and setting the language are offered as the Windows display language when adding a new language in Settings. When these features are available for the language, separate options for installing the Speech recognition and Text-to-speech features will be shown.
- The Printers & Scanners page in Settings is updated including a link straight to the troubleshooter now.
Final Words
As usual, users can check out all the full information of this release notes in Windows Blog. But only beta testers running Fast Ring or Skip Ahead Windows Insider builds can see the new Windows 10 features. Once beta testing is finished, these will be rolled out in April to all customers.
