Some users have found that Windows 11 KB5010414 hides the Start menu or breaks the taskbar. In this post, MiniTool Software will show you some relevant information about this issue based on Microsoft’s official response.
Windows 11 KB5010414 Hides the Start Menu! Is It a Bug?
On February 15, 2022, Microsoft rolled out Windows 11 KB5010414 (an optional update) to Windows 11 users in the production channel. Although it is an optional update, it is a big update because there are many new features, changes, and improvements in it. For example, Android apps are available in Microsoft Store after installing this update. So many users go to Windows Update to check for updates and download & install it on PC.
However, these users discover that the Start menu acts weirdly after installing this update: the Start menu will automatically disappear when they hover over icons that are pinned to the taskbar. This is different from the previous Windows 11 builds. So, some users think it is a Windows 11 KB5010414 bug because Windows 11 KB5010414 breaks the Start menu.
Is it so?
It Is Not a “Bug”!
Microsoft responds now: it is not a bug. It is just a new feature in Windows 11 KB5010414. As mentioned at the outset, there are many new features in this update. Since Windows 11 KB5010414, the widgets board is pinned to the left side of the taskbar. It is simple to launch it now: you just need to hover over the icon. Due to this, it is causing a conflict where Start opens and then closes immediately.
The Start menu will apparently close as long as you move the cursor near the left side of the taskbar even when you are not trying to interact with the widgets board.
In the Feedback Hub, a user presented his idea like this:
It is because if the cursor goes over widgets icon it closes the Start menu because it thinks you want to open the widget menu, it should only close the start menu when the Widget menu opens.
Microsoft also gives a response:
We’re working on this, but we believe passing over the widgets icon as you move your mouse might be what’s causing this. We’d recommend carefully avoiding it as you move your mouse into the Start menu as a workaround for now.
Microsoft also says that they are working to address a problem where the Start menu opens and then closes when the cursor is moved in preview builds. When this issue is solved, a new Windows update will be released. That’s why you should keep your Windows up-to-date.
Windows 11 KB5010414 Breaks the Taskbar
In the Feedback Hub post, there is a problem about Taskbar issues with Windows 11 KB5010414. The user describes the issues as:
After installing KB5010414, a number of applications started covering the taskbar when maximized (Chrome, Teams, Edge). MS Office applications did not cover the taskbar, but the bottom of these apps was hidden behind the taskbar.

This issue should be caused by the taskbar improvements in Windows 11 KB5010414. Microsoft should fix it in the future.
