The new Tesla update is suitable for most Model 3!
Released shortly after the 2020.8.3 update, the latest Tesla software update (2020.12.5) is a new over-the-air software update containing various small new features and improvements. According to Teslafi.com, the vast majority of Tesla users have updated their system to the latest 2020.12.5 version till now. And the new OTA software update is said to continue to roll out on most Model 3, so it’s can be regarded as the Tesla Model 3 update.
There are some useful and long-awaited improvements I’d like to cover.

Highlight 1: Cheetah Stance
In the 2020.12.5, the launch mode of Tesla will be enhanced with the Cheetah Stance feature, which is available for all Model X and S owners.
The front of the car will be lowered into a “Cheetah Stance” by the launch mode. It was inspired by the gesture of the predator ready to take off and pounce. The ground clearance of the front axle is reduced greatly by the launch mode. This is realized by virtue of the adaptive suspension (which is called Raven in Tesla). In this way, the traction will be improved a lot during acceleration.
Experiments show that the maximum output power can reach 614kW under this new launch mode, far stronger than that of the previous version (580kW).
Highlight 2: Dashcam Viewer
The Dashcam viewer makes it easier to view footage.
- In the past, the car owners need to move the USB drive to computer so as to view the footage.
- Now, with the help of new Tesla update, the owners can view the Dashcam and Sentry Mode in car directly.
This is fantastic for Tesla owners since the process of removing a USB drive and checking by phone is very troublesome.
The Dashcam viewer feature help you get access to the video quickly; this is especially important in the event of any accident or incident. You can know clearly what happened to your car and stay away from scammers incited accidents. What’s more, the unused clips can be deleted quickly from the USB drive to release more free space.
Highlight 3: Out of Order Supercharger Stalls
Currently, more details about the status of the Superchargers at the stations will be contained in the Supercharger stalls on the dashboard map. In this way, your Tesla will show you exactly how many supercharging stall(s) is (are) out of order at present in certain supercharging station location.
Out of order Supercharger stalls feature is very useful for long-distance road trips; it helps a lot to plan your trip in a better way than before.
How to Update to Tesla 2020.12.5
You’ll receive a Software Update message on the Tesla app if your car is ready for update.
Make sure the WiFi connection is available (don’t use LTE connection since the update data is too large to download).
Tesla Model 3 update steps:
- Click Software from the left sidebar or click on the yellow down arrow button that is located at the top.
- Look for the Update available 2020.12.5 section in the right window.
- If you’re not connected to WiFi, you’ll see the sentence Please connect to Wi-Fi to download the Software Update. Just connect to Wi-Fi properly.
- Click on the SOFTWARE UPDATE button and wait. The file downloading process may last for 30 to 40 minutes. The download progress will be shown to you clearly.
- A notification will pop up on the screen: Software update is available. (The installation may take 25 minutes or so.)
- Click INSTALL NOW and wait. You can’t operate your car until you see the message – Software update is complete. (Please schedule a time for Tesla software update if you’re not convenient at the moment.)
