Recently, Toshiba announces the new MN07 series hard drives for NAS platform integrators and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), with eight or more drive bays. This 12TB and 14TB 3.5-inch hard disk drive series are good for the cost of capacity and the total cost of ownership in the network attached storage appliances.
Commonly known as Toshiba, the world-famous Toshiba Corporation is actually a Japanese multinational conglomerate, which is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. It provides diversified products and services, covering lighting and logistics, power systems, industrial and social infrastructure systems, information technology and communications equipment and systems, medical equipment, office equipment, consumer electronics, household appliances, electronic components and materials, etc.

Recently, Toshiba announced a new hard drive series.
Toshiba Announced MN07 Series Hard Drives
Announced by Toshiba in India, the MN07 series hard drives create quite a stir. Why the MN07 series 3.5-inch hard disk drives can reach up to 12 TB and 14 TB in capacity? That is simply because a helium-sealed mechanical design is added to this series.

Attractive Features of MN07 Series
1. In the 14 TB hard drives, the power efficiency is improved by about 55 percent (W/GB) over the previous 10 TB “air”.
2. With a Toshiba hard drive of MN07 series, you can handle the NAS (Network Attached Storage) files and object storage applications which demand for disk drives with workload ratings of up to 180 TB annually, in a methodical manner. (Workload is a way to measure the data throughput of the year. It actually refers to the amount of data, which are written, read or verified by the commands from the host system.)
3. Besides, the advanced vibration compensation technology and Format (AF) 512e sector technology are applied to this new series. This action helps to improve the overall performance, reliability, capacity, and power efficiency greatly.
4. What’s more, this series of Toshiba hard drives are provided with good reliability and compatibility. Both hard disk drives (of 12TB and 14TB capacity) offer 7*24 operability and reliability with a MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) of 1.0 Million hours, and those hard drives are compatible with most third-party, 3.5-inch NAS enclosures on the market.
General Manager’s View
Toshiba’s new MN07 Series provides proven NAS-class performance and durability. Toshiba’s exclusive 9-disk, helium-sealed mechanics deliver real value to OEMs and integrators of file- and object- storage solutions who utilize proven network-attached storage technologies. MN07 Series models include RV compensation technology for optimal performance in multi-disk NAS enclosures and are designed for robust 24/7 operation up to 300,000 load/unload cycles.– said Shuji Takaoka, General Manager of Storage Products Sales & Marketing Division at Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation
Market for the New Hard Drive Series
The Toshiba MN07 series hard drives are available to OEMs and system integrators on commercial channels as soon as it’s announced.
Survey results show that both the MN07 and MG07 hard drives are made on the basis of eight or nine PMR platters from Showa Denko, with 1.56 TB capacity per platter. As the new series released by Toshiba, the NAS-class hard drives own a spindle speed of 7200 RPM and a cache buffer of 256 MB. Apart from that, the new Toshiba hard drive series adopt a SATA 6 Gbps interface.
So, it is natural to expect that various leading NAS makers will try the new Toshiba hard drives in the coming months. At the same time, the Toshiba NAS-class hard drives tend to show up in retail eventually. That is to say, you are likely to discover that: the new MN07 series hard drives are available for purchase from stores online, such as Amazon, later this year or earlier the next year.
