Microsoft is actively developing the Microsoft Edge browser. The Microsoft Edge Team has hosted an AMA session on Reddit recently and has posted some interesting details about upcoming browser improvements. Click this post from MiniTool to get more information.

A New Way to Improve Power Efficiency in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has announced that power efficiency in Microsoft Edge will be improved. Let’s take a look at Microsoft’s plans to improve power efficiency in Microsoft Edge and detailed information about other features that were discussed by the company.

First, the company proposed some plans to improve the new Edge browser’s power efficiency. In the Reddit Forum, Microsoft announced that it was preparing another such plan, which involves enabling hardware-offloaded audio processing for audio content on Windows.

You may not know that audio processing is often called audio offload, which is an expensive process at the system level. Microsoft plans to increase battery life by using specialized hardware according to the proposal. Here is Microsoft’s description of the plan:

“To see substantial improvements in battery life, the audio offload must be paired with large audio buffers. If large audio buffers are not used, then the computer’s main CPU must still wake frequently to feed audio from the application to the hardware.”

It also plans to separate these wakes, allowing the main CPU to have a long chance of maintaining a lower power state by increasing the buffer size.

According to the Reddit AMA conference, Microsoft has not decided to support any particular Linux distribution. The MS Edge team confirmed that the company made decisions by depending on the web developers and users’ feedback.

In addition, many people said they were loving the IE mode and some of them asked whether Microsoft plans to abandon Internet Explorer or not. Maybe IE fans might be happy because the company does not plan to abandon it and IE mode will continue to be supported by Windows 10.

Users’ Feedback Drives Microsoft’s Contribution to the Chromium Project

People also want to know the reasons for Microsoft deciding to launch its own Chromium-based browser. Those people think this incident implies that Microsoft cannot develop its own software. Since Microsoft began contributing to the Chromium project, this issue has been raised over and over again.

In response, the team emphasized the fact that users’ feedback drives their contribution to the chromium project. One of the main requirements put forward by people was a browser could be used on multiple platforms and not just Windows 10 operating system.

Furthermore, the problems associated with a separate proprietary engine were pointed out by the developer’s community. Microsoft hoped to reduce network fragmentation for the developer community.

Final Words

As power efficiency in Microsoft Edge will be improved, Microsoft said it would listen to the user’s demands and decide to develop an open-source project instead of maintaining their own. The company has not announced the release date of the stable channel. You can go to the Edge Insiders site to download the latest beta preview.
