After upgrading to Windows 11 Insider preview build 22454.000, many users may discover that Windows 11 taskbar is not centered. Why does this happen? Is it possible to fix it? This post from MiniTool Software will show the answers you want to know.
UPDATE 9/22: Windows 11 taskbar is off center is solved in Windows 11 Insider preview build 22463. You can update to this version to use a normal taskbar again.
Microsoft has begun to roll out higher build numbers of Windows 11 builds to Insiders in the Dev Channel of Windows Insider Program. Windows 11 Insider preview build 22449 is the first Windows 11 build that no longer matches the Windows 11 21H2 experience to be launched on October 5, 2021.
Windows 11 Taskbar Not Centered! A Bug!
Windows 11 builds in the Dev Channel are not stable as the builds in the Beta Chanel. Perhaps, you can find many bugs if you are in the Dev Channel.
For example, since Windows 11 Insider preview build 22454, you may find that the Windows 11 taskbar is not centered (some users describe the issue as Windows 11 taskbar is off center)). And after upgrading to Windows 11 build 22458, this issue persists. The following screen is an example. You can see that the taskbar is shifted a bit to the right side.
Is this a serious issue?
Not exactly. It is just a known bug and Microsoft has issued it in its Windows Insider blogs.
In the blog of Windows 11 Insider preview build 22454, Microsoft stated the Windows 11 taskbar not centered issue like this (in the Taskbar section under Known issues):
We’re investigating an issue in this build where app icons in the Taskbar are getting cut off by the “show hidden icons” button and aren’t centered.
In the blog of Windows 11 Insider preview build 22458, this taskbar issue appears again:
IMPORTANT: Icons on the Taskbar are shifted to the side when in the default center alignment, resulting in them getting cut off by the “show hidden icons” button when too many apps are open.
So, when you find your Windows 11 taskbar is not in the middle, you should not worry about it. It is a Windows 11 taskbar bug and Microsoft knows it. This means that Microsoft will fix it in the future. In which build? We don’t know now. But we will update this post if the issue is solved.
What Can You Do if Windows 11 Taskbar Is Not Centered?
Do Nothing but Wait for the Fix
Now, it seems that this Windows 11 taskbar bug doesn’t affect your use of this Windows 11 build. It is just a taskbar position issue. You can keep running Windows 11 and wait for the fix in a future Windows 11 build.
Align the Taskbar to the Left Side
If you can’t get used to the position of the taskbar in Windows 11, you can move it to the left side. When this issue is solved, you can move it back again if you want.
Switch to the Beta Channel
At present, the Windows 11 builds in the Dev Channel are not stable as the builds in the Beta Channel. It’s normal if they have so many issues, bugs, and loopholes like Windows 11 taskbar not centered. If you want to experience a stable Windows 11 build, you can switch to the Beta Channel.
Roll back to Windows 10
If you can’t stand the bugs of Windows 11, you can even consider rolling back to Windows 10. After Windows 11 is officially released, you can upgrade your computer to Windows 11 without so many issues.
Bottom Line
Now you know why your Windows 11 taskbar is not centered. It should not be a big issue. You can wait until the fix appears, or you can try the methods mentioned in this post to mitigate the situation. Should you have other related issues, you can let us know in the comments.
